In the United States, dating is an accepted part of culture and is a natural part of the process of growing up. Many adolescents begin forming relationships with the opposite sex in the late elementary or middle school years.
Date With A Group
Group dating is a safer alternative to one-on-one dates. group of friends image by Dmitri MIkitenko from Fotolia.com Dating in a group allows you to explore romantic relationships without having to deal with the sexual pressures that many teens face in a one-on-one setting. Group dating also keeps the date more casual, with less of a focus on the relationship and more focus on socializing with a variety of people.
Be Yourself
- Young teens are already struggling with figuring out who they are, what they represent and how they choose to present themselves. This does not mean that you should not let people see the real you. You will learn that it is easier to find a group of friends that you get along well with than it is to pretend to be someone you are not.
Date in Moderation
- As a young teen or preteen, dating should be something that compliments your life, not rules it. Keep your focus on school and forming and maintaining friendships. Statistics have shown that teens who frequently date in early adolescence have poorer grades, increased drug use and higher rates of delinquency.
